How to import your StoryGraph library into Litmus

Moving from StoryGraph to Litmus does not mean starting your shelves over. StoryGraph lets you export your whole library as a single file, and Litmus reads it directly, so your books, ratings, reviews, and reading dates all come across. Here is the whole process, start to finish.

Step 1: Export your library from StoryGraph

The export tool lives in your StoryGraph account settings, and it is easiest to reach on a computer.

Sign in to StoryGraph and open your account by clicking your profile.
Go to Manage Account.
Scroll to Export StoryGraph Library and start the export.
StoryGraph builds the file and gives you a download link (it may also email you when it is ready). Save the .csv file it produces.

That single file holds your library: every book, its read status, your star rating and review, and the dates you started and finished.

Step 2: Open the import screen in Litmus

Open Litmus on the web or on your phone.
Go to Settings, then Import.
Choose StoryGraph as the source.

Step 3: Drop in your file

Select the StoryGraph .csv you downloaded. Litmus reads it on your device, book by book, and adds everything to your shelf. Even a large library imports in a few seconds.

What comes across

Litmus maps the StoryGraph export onto its own shelf, keeping the parts that matter:

Title, author, and ISBN for every book.
Your star rating and your written review.
Your read status. A read book lands as finished, currently-reading stays currently reading, and to-read becomes want to read. Books you marked as did-not-finish keep that status too, rather than being collapsed into a single read-or-unread state.
Your dates, including when you finished a book, so your history and stats line up with reality.

What happens next

After the import, Litmus runs a quiet, automatic scan that looks for the representation signals already attached to your books, using public sources rather than guessing. It is deliberately conservative: it will leave a book untagged rather than assume anything about a person, and it never overwrites a tag you set by hand. Within a short while, your spectrum view fills in, showing the diversity across the library you just brought over, with no extra work from you.

A few tips

Export on a computer if you can. The StoryGraph export tool is much easier to reach on the full site than in the mobile app.
If your phone does not seem to see the file, make sure you are selecting the .csv you downloaded and not a zipped version of it.
